What this is

MyScoutPage is used by families of high-school athletes to build one recruiting page and send it to a small number of programs. To make that possible we keep a directory of college coaching contacts: a name, a job title, and the address the department publishes for them.

We do not sell that directory, and we do not email you on our own initiative. Every message you receive from a family here is sent from that family’s own email account, with their own address on it.

Where it came from

Publicly listed athletic department staff directories — the same page any recruit finds from your team’s site. Nothing is bought, and nothing comes from a private source.

What we promise

It obeys robots.txt. A path your robots.txt disallows our crawler does not fetch, and where it disallows the directory entirely we record that and stop.

There is one exception and it is worth stating plainly. When a person who runs this directory opens one page in our admin tool and presses fetch, that single request goes out without consulting robots.txt first. It is one page they chose and are looking at, not a list being worked — and it still identifies itself, still comes with a From: address, still waits out the delay your robots.txt asks for, and still never claims to be a browser. Every automated path checks robots.txt before its first request, without exception.

It identifies itself. Every request carries a From: address you can write to and an X-Crawler-Info header linking to this page, and it paces itself so it is never a load on your site. Almost all of them also name MyScoutPageBot in the user agent. The exception is a site that refuses anything identifying itself as a tool: there we retry once without a user agent, which is why the address and the link above are on every request rather than only most of them — so you can always find us, even then.

It never claims to be a person. We do not forge a user agent and we do not pretend to be a visitor.

It takes what your page publishes, and no more. If your department lists a shared team inbox rather than personal addresses, that is what we store. If it names you and publishes no address, we store the name and no address. We do not guess an address from a pattern, and we do not buy one.

If something is wrong

A wrong name, an address that belongs to somebody who left, a coach filed under the wrong sport — tell us and we will correct it. Families can also report a bad contact from inside the product, and those reports are reviewed by a person rather than acted on automatically.

If you would rather recruits reached you through your program’s questionnaire, tell us and we will list that instead of an address.
